Charlie Beck attended Mayfair High School, class of 1971.
He served as Chief of the Los Angeles Police Department from 2009 to 2018 and later as interim Superintendent of the Chicago Police Department. Cal State Long Beach has recognized him as a Distinguished Alumnus.
During his tenure in Los Angeles, homicides fell to historic lows. His path is a public-service story that sits outside athletics: a BUSD student who went on to lead at the highest municipal level.
