Dick Ackerman graduated from Bellflower High School in 1960, where he served as senior class vice president. He grew up in Lakewood.
He served in the California State Senate from 2000 to 2008 and as Senate Republican Leader. He was earlier a member of the California State Assembly and twice mayor of Fullerton.
He is a graduate of UC Berkeley and UC Hastings.
